Nissan is the only car company, in the world, that ‘fit tests’ almost one-hundred different child safety seats in nearly everyone of their vehicles. This program is running in both Canada and the U.S., with a lot of potential to branch out to other areas of the world.
This is how the program works, every time a new Nissan vehicle is created a new ‘fit clinic’ is held, as Nissan likes to call it. After their (Nissan’s) findings they then publish their results for consumers to look at, so they know which child safety seats fit the best with their respective Nissan vehicle.
Bob Yakushi, Nissan’s Director of Product Safety, talked about how important this initiative is to the people of Nissan, stating that, “We really feel that protecting what everyone considers their most precious cargo, children, to be so important that we have dedicated an engineering team in product safety to fit child safety seats to each one of our models.”
This initiative by Nissan should be the norm by car manufacturers across the globe as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has found that more than 70 percent of child safety seats, at any given moment, are not properly installed.
